Maui and the Sun

Room 27's movie retells the story of Maui and the Sun. This year we have been reading all about Maui's adventures and we wanted to share one of our favourites with you. We really enjoyed making our props and acting out all our roles. We hope you enjoy our movie!

Our trip to Stardome!

Today Room 27 and Room 24 took the big white and blue school bus to Stardome. We lined up in a beautiful straight line outside and waited for everyone so that we could go inside. First we sat on the mat and waited for John to tell us what we were going to do. Next we walked into the dark space room together. John told us about the shining stars, the hot sparkly sun, the grey moon and how they all work together to make day and night. After that John gave each group a blue and black iPad to do the quiz outside in the gallery. We had to read and search for the right answers. Some of us got them all right!
John said, "Your time for the quiz is over. We are now going to take a seat in the squishy, soft chairs so that we can watch an exciting movie."
We could not wait!
When the movie started some of us felt like we were spinning around and around in our rocket space chairs. We had to look up to watch the astronaut movie and some of us were so comfy we started to feel sleepy.
The movie was 16 of ours favourite part of the day!
Sadly after the movie we had to go back to Point England School, but we had such an awesome day!

Thank you to all our whanau who helped us today!

Welcome back for Term 3!

We are already in the second half of our year! It has been great to see many of the children back at school and ready for another term of learning.

Today, Izabelle was caught helping to tidy our school by picking up rubbish in the playground. She is the first in the class to win one of the rubbish buster badges - well done!

This term our Inquiry topic is called Guardians of the Galaxy! We will be exploring Earth, the planets and beyond. Team 2 will also be having a trip to Stardome as part of our Inquiry later in the term.

Term 2 Inquiry!

This term our inquiry question is "How can we make a kite that will fly?"

We will be looking at the technology design process to create a kite that we can fly! This will involve us thinking critically, collaborating with our peers and evaluating the decisions we have made. We will also be talking about Matariki!

We finished our first term already!

It is hard to believe how fast the first term went by! Room 27 has worked so hard and Miss Peck is extremely proud of the effort all the students have put into their learning and being such amazing PES learners and friends. Thank you all for the great term and wishing you all a safe and happy holiday!

Here is a photo of our top three book club readers with their prizes! William, Lama and Zaria came to school early enough every morning to read their stories before going out to play. Great work!

An amazing story by Gabriella!

This week we watched the movie The Clocktower. Here is my narrative story:

Once upon a time there was a little girl that lived in a clocktower and the clocktower looked like a tornado. The little girl's name was Rozy and the little girl had a cog on the little girl's dress. The little girl had a shiny crown on her head and earrings on her ears. When she turned the world turned and the little girl was time. The little girl had to dance because it was her job and the little girl went outside because she wanted a balloon. She wanted to have a friend and I know she wanted her mum and dad.

Get Set Go - Learning how to throw!

In Kiwisport we have been learning how to throw both underarm and overarm! Yesterday the coach told us to draw a smiley face for underarm and for overarm we had to make big muscle arms. Here you can see Toni having a go at underarm throwing. He managed to knock over one of the cone targets - Well done Toni!

Rubbish Busters!

This term we are talking about looking after our environment and how we can contribute in a positive way. Yesterday, we decided that we would be Rubbish Busters and go on an adventure to bust all the rubbish around the village, field and playground. We set off as a class through the village and then created a Rubbish Busting line to cover the whole field. As we started cleaning up we saw some beautiful Pukeko. Seeing how much rubbish we picked up made us realise how even 20 minutes of team work could make such a difference - after all we want to see many more Pukeko enjoying our clean school! After we had picked up 3 bags full of rubbish and completed our mission we played in our rubbish free park. Well done Room 27, you were all amazing Rubbish Busters!

Kicking the week off with a great start!

Each week, first thing, on a Monday morning Team 2 has a team assembly. This is a great opportunity for us to all come together, talk about what is happening in our team and school, and to remember our korero for the week. As Mr Burt told us on Friday, we will be focusing on RIGHT TIME, RIGHT PLACE, and RIGHT ATTITUDE. We have also been practising our school waiata and some other beautiful songs which I will try and capture on video next week. Thank you Mrs. Nalder for leading our wonderful assembly this week!

Water safety and swimming lessons!

We are now in our second week of swimming and it has been amazing to see the progress in swimming skills already made by the students in Room 27. The teachers have also been talking to us about water safety and have discussed how we can be safe in rivers by making sure we are always with an adult, look out for currents and rocks which can be slippery, and stay in waste deep water NOT neck deep water.

We still have 2 more weeks of swimming lessons left so parents/caregivers please make sure your child has their togs on Monday. They can leave these at school for the week and will bring them home on the weekend to be washed.

The Duffy Show!

Today we were fortunate enough to have the Duffy Show visit our school! It was great to hear about Duffy's adventure as he travelled around the world helping his friend to battle climate change in many different contries. Not only did the children love the show, it also linked in perfectly to our discussions this week about the environment and how we all need to take responsibility in helping to look after it. Thank you Duffy and team, we loved having you visit!

Welcome to our blog!

We all had a lovely first week of Term 1 in Room 27. This week we learnt all about each other and also got outside to explore our local environment, as we are looking into how we can care for our local environment this term! It was great to get out in the fresh air and we took some great photos of the reserve with the beach in the background.

Here is lovely photo Faith took in Explain Everything:
